Ok...so we may not be in the 1920s during the infamous Prohibition Era when the sale and consumption of alcohol was illegal but we can still get to experience what it would have been like back then...well somewhat.
If you'd like to experience that illicit thrill, then I suggest you do a speakeasy crawl in Downtown Colorado Springs or check them out a night at a time.
I actually stumbled upon them by just having casual conversations with perfect strangers while adventuring around in Downtown Colorado Springs.
So far, I have uncovered three speakeasies in Downtown Colorado Springs, each one very different from the other but with its own uniqueness.
1. Brooklyn's on Boulder Street - right next to the Wild Goose Meeting Place, behind a fake tailor shop facade, you will find this rustic chic venue. A great spot to check out with a group of friends...especially for the gin lover. They make their own gin and once in a while they'll schedule a class to show you how they do it.
2. Sakura - hidden inside Rooster's House of Ramen on Tejon St, it's a classy, sophisticated, romantic and cozy, smaller and more private venue....great place for date night. Their cocktails are an interesting fusion mix of flavors and the bartenders will prepare your drink with an artful flare. Just push the fake wall in the back with the large flower painted on it and be prepared to be amazed.
3. 15C Cigar and Martini Bar - an eccentric bar, feels like you have walked back in time and at any minute some mobster will be walking in. Great for a boys night out or girls night out or a group of friends and have a sultry martini in one hand and cigar in the other (if you're into that)...definitely for the martini and cigar lover. You'll find this bar down an alley on Bijou Street pass the Starbucks on the corner of Tejon and Bijou. Halfway down the alley you will see a beige door with 15C on it, just open the door, walk on in and be transported in time.
My advice, don't look up the establishments on the internet to see what they look like before attending...it's more fun to not know what to expect and get to experience the initial thrill and surprise in person.
